# Connect Excel

> Analyze your Entegrata data in Excel with a live PivotTable connected to your Power BI semantic model

## Overview

You can analyze your Entegrata data in Excel with a live PivotTable that refreshes from the same semantic model your reports use. You can start from Excel, or from the Power BI service with **Analyze in Excel**.

## Prerequisites

* A Power BI license.
* **Build** permission on the semantic model. Ask the semantic model's owner or a workspace admin if you are not sure.
* Your Power BI administrator must turn on the tenant setting **Users can work with semantic models in Excel using a live connection**. Entegrata recommends it; see [Recommended Tenant Settings](/power-bi/tenant-settings).

## Connect

Microsoft documents each way to connect, and keeps the steps current as Excel changes:

* [Microsoft Learn: Connect Excel to Power BI semantic models](https://learn.microsoft.com/power-bi/collaborate-share/office-integration/service-connect-power-bi-datasets-excel) covers every option.
* [Microsoft Learn: Power BI semantic model experience in Excel](https://learn.microsoft.com/power-bi/collaborate-share/office-integration/service-connect-excel-power-bi-datasets) covers starting in Excel for the web or Excel desktop.
* [Microsoft Learn: Create Excel workbooks with refreshable Power BI data](https://learn.microsoft.com/power-bi/collaborate-share/office-integration/service-analyze-in-excel) covers starting in the Power BI service.

## Security in Excel

Row-level security applies in Excel the same way it does in your reports. People see only the data they are allowed to see in Power BI.
