Overview

Your Entegrata reports show data that has passed through three steps. Knowing when each one runs tells you how current your reports are, and when to schedule your Power BI refresh.

How Data Reaches Your Reports

1

Source updates

Entegrata connects to your firm’s source systems and brings that data into your firm’s lakehouse, on a schedule your firm sets. You can change that schedule at any time. See Collection Settings.
2

Gold layer

At least once a day, Entegrata’s automated jobs build the Gold layer that your Power BI reports are based on. This is usually early morning Eastern Time, but your Entegrata Customer Experience Manager can help you understand your firm’s current time and update it as needed.
3

Power BI refresh

Your semantic model refreshes on the schedule set in your Power BI workspace. Your firm manages this schedule.

When to Schedule Your Refresh

Schedule your Power BI refresh after a Gold layer build has finished. A refresh that runs before the build finishes only reloads the data from the previous build.
Leave some margin after the build time. If your source systems are slow to deliver data, schedule the refresh later in the day.

If a Source Update Fails

If data from one of your sources could not be updated, the build still runs, but that source’s data may not be current. Entegrata notifies your firm if this happens.
